A special post

The only real reason this entry is special is that I just noticed that it is my 100th post. Nice huh?

Conference is over and almost done with. I say almost, because I am still tying up some lose ends regarding my being a part of the Youth activities committee. Our committee was in charge of putting together two fun activities for the youth. We had been told that last year, they had up to 3 or 4 hundred kids at the youth events. So we thought that since this is a more central location than the state of Delaware, we would have more.

We planned for bear. The first night we had used a local school for a night of Pizza, Pop and hanging out. Kids could play volleyball or basketball or just visit with each other. 180 showed up. We had twice as much pizza as we needed.

The second night was a little better. I had booked 321 improv, a Christian Comedy group, and we had the event at Shiloh Mennonite Church. I was really hoping for 5 hundred and even had the moderator at the main session announce that people of all ages could come. We had a decent crowd of 250, and the comedy group was better than I had hoped. The problem is that we didn't cover our expenses by a full thousand dollars. So now I have to see if anything can be done to help us recoup our costs. Don't get me wrong, both nights, especially the second one, were a blast, but it is a real blow to my pride to have miscalculated that badly.

I still have no job. The principal of Shekinah told me over the weekend that he still doesn't know if they will have a position for me. A pastor from Florida approached me and asked if I would consider relocating, but Florida is a long ways away. I said I would consider it and to check back when they started their search. They will be needing a family pastor I believe.

The rest of conference was great, although quite busy. The drama that several from my church and family were involved in Saturday night went amazingly well. I am glad that conference wont be held here for another nine years hopefully. It really is a lot of work.

Kalvary sized computer

Ok. So I lied. Here is a picture of Kalvary typing into Grandpa's PDA. Oh and one of the pictures of Glory at two Months.

Just so you know what is up.

This is the week of the Conservative mennonite Conference. Which means I am busy. Hence, the updates will be sparse. We also have a full house with Grandma and Grandpa Shirk staying with us. Uncle Benj will be coming tomorrow. I still haven't heard about the Job at Shekinah yet.

Cool Video

Just something quick. Here is the coolest falling "Domino" thing I have ever seen.

Do I always have to think of a title?

It is hard to believe that the annual conservative Mennonite conference takes place next week. I hope we are ready for it.

This week I worked for Richard Troyer from church two days. I did alright, but it is not stuff that comes naturally to me. He builds cabinents mostly. I should admit though that most of the work he gave me involved hulling stuff or smashing stuff and that does come naturally to me.

While bashing up a desk I managed to impale one of my fingers with a nail. I am pretty sure that I am overdue for a tetanus shot, seeing as my last one involved a certain triple hooked fishing lure. That was ten years ago. I did some research on Tetanus and it appears that even if I should contract it, I will probably survive.

No I haven't heard from Shekinah yet, but it should be any day.

This coming weekend we are having a picnic for our neighborhood at our house. I hope people come, and I hope that they don't think we are trying to ambush them and get them to come to our church. I mean, that would be nice, but we want to be friends too. I told Kris that we shouldn't even mention our faith this time unless someone asks. I do hope to hand out some flyers for our upcoming family fun day at church, maybe when people leave.

One last thing. We are trying to sell some stuff on craigslist again. We have had great success buying, but we just can't seem to get anyone to buy from us. It might be because we aren't selling anything great. We are trying to sell this and this.

Job update and precocious child

Well, shekinah got back to me last week. The good news is that they didn't tell me no. The bad news is that it will be another week or so before they can tell me anything. Apparently they would like to have me and are trying to raise the funds to pay another teacher. If they don't hire me, I have a few other options. We'll just have to wait. Here is a picture of Glory "sitting up" she looks quite smart in this picture.

So whats up with the Job?

Not much of anything really. Bob Evans said they would call me on Tuesday to let me know when I can train, and I haven't heard from them since. Shekinah had their board meeting Tuesday night and I haven't heard from them. I haven't called Bob Evans back because Jeff Helmuth at church is giving me work today and tomorrow, so I would rather not train those days. Still praying basically.

A classic prank

Check it out. I will hopefully have more time to put something else on tomorrow.

Quiche

Don't ask about the title. Sorry for the lack of updates of late and the lack of pictures in this one. Every time I think of sitting down at the computer for any length of time I always have to hold Glory or chase Kalvary. Not that I mind doing those things but it makes for less computer time.

This past week we played a lot of settlers and went on some pretty long walks. I also interviewed at Bob Evans. Apparently their need for workers overcame their annoyance with me for not wanting to work weekends. I should here from the Shekinah job sometimes this week since their board meets on Tuesday.

Conference is now looming and I wish that I had said no to something. I just can't decide which thing it should have been.

Some things of interest. The World Cup is over with the Italians winning it all. I was happy to see it for two reasons. I root for the US and the Italians are the only team in there group early that didn't beat them, and this head butt by Zidano of France in the final minutes. Another thing of interest. Did you know that you can cross a cucumber with a cantaloupe in your very own garden?

First July Post

Where did June go? Summers always go fast.

My interview with Arnold Shetler from Shekinah went well. At least I think it did. It lasted 2 hours, which can't be a bad sign. I should hear back from them in two weeks. We found the camera. It was in the trash can in our study. We know who put it there. Kris's sister Deb spent last week with us which was a real treat, since she lives out in Portland, Oregon and we don't get to see here much. Kalvary really enjoyed it, and I got to make Deb Sushi. Deb also had her husband Nate send out two bags of Stumptown Coffee. Oh yeah. That's good stuff.

Then this weekend we went out to the Shirks in Goshen, Indiana for a wedding and to see the grandparents. I got a whole slew of pictures from the weekend here. I didn't get any pictures of the wedding or reception, because it was a Wisler wedding and they don't want you to take pictures during the those two things. Afterwards would have been fine, but I forgot.

Then Last night I helped out the radio station as they covered the fireworks for the town of London. Elaine and Ed are really doing well with the station. Hope this has been a fun update for you. Here is a video of a guy who goes all around the world and dances.
